combined with their ability to form biofilms, not only helps them survive but can also promote the survival of other pathogens, such as <em>Listeria monocytogenes<\/em>, in food processing environments.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pseudomonas-spp-e-listeria-monocytogenes\"><em>Pseudomonas spp.<\/em> and <em>Listeria monocytogenes<\/em><\/h2>\n\n<p id=\"h-persistenza\">Persistence<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>L. monocytogenes<\/em> can persist within <em>Pseudomonas<\/em> biofilms, although in smaller numbers than its co-inhabitants. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, <em>L. monocytogenes<\/em> can migrate into the innermost layers of the biofilm, where it is better protected from the disinfectant. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This helps it survive over time.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-regrowth\">Regrowth<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although disinfection can reduce bacterial populations to undetectable levels, <em>L. monocytogenes<\/em> can resume growth within the <em>Pseudomonas<\/em> biofilm after 48\u201396 hours.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results show that the combination of <em>Pseudomonas spp.<\/em> and <em>L. monocytogenes<\/em> regrew after disinfection, indicating that the <em>Pseudomonas<\/em> biofilm helped <em>L. monocytogenes<\/em> survive.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pseudomonas-spp-conclusioni\"><em>Pseudomonas spp<\/em>.: Conclusions<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In summary, <em>Pseudomonas spp.<\/em> biofilms not only increase their own tolerance to disinfectants but also create an environment that promotes the survival and
